Painting: Building a home
"Building a home"
is a mixed media work on plate, 54x65 cm. The background is made using water colour that has been worked with so long that it has become 'etched' into the plate. The environment, the house, the tops of the trees and the people in the painting are created with oilcrayons and oil, which makes the painting into a 'living' material. It has a wood frame glued onto the back, 2.1 cm deep, making the depth 2.5cm with the plate. The sides of the frame are painted white. You can find the artwork for sale at Saatchi Online Gallery. www.saatchionline.com/siriskogstadberntsen

Seeds
Title: Seeds
Format: 100x100x4cm
Production year: 2015
Technique; acrylic painting on canvas
Comment: This artwork is made with acrylic painting on canvas. I have also used charcoal in the creation. The landscape is covered with snow. There are two people standing in the middle of it, one could perhaps understand them as unnatural or not really belonging in this snow-covered surroundings. In a way they are like wonders, like the surreal presence of humans in the far north when all the land is covered with snow. For me this is a typical landscape from my own childhood, growing up in the far north of Norway.
The artwork will be put up for sale at Saatchi Online Gallery. www.saatchionline.com/siriskogstadberntsen

Painting: Lost spaces
"Lost spaces"
is an acrylic painting on plate. The face has been worked with over a long period, removing layers of paint, building again, also using a knife for linework, creating a rough texture for the close appearance. The visible text elements in the background (I awoke to an ordinary morning) and (we are not alone) are made with a knife, finding its way down to the deep layers of the paint. There is more text in the background, visible as rough texture in a close appearance, also made with a knife. The photo of the painting is not as sharp as it should have been, the original has a little more edge and contrast. A wooden frame is glued on to the backside of the plate (app. 2 cm deep). The sides of the frame are painted in the same colour palette as the background. It can be put up like this but it would probably benefit on a nice frame. It will be put up for sale at Saatchi Online Gallery. www.saatchionline.com/siriskogstadberntsen

The winter is coming
"The winter is coming"
A photo of Tromsdalstinden, a mountain outside Tromsø, northern Norway is used as base. I have tried to make simplistic forms or visions out of the photo, wanting to emphasize the experience of nature in this region, the darkness that surrounds everything and the winter settling quietly over the landscape, sometimes mildly, gently, like comfort. The method/tecnique is DGA: Digital art
I have made several variations. The images can be printed as Giclées or on materials like canvas,
wood, pvc, metal etc.

The last sunshine
This time of the year the dark period is starting in Northern Norway. The sun does not any longer approach the surface of the earth from this angle, the light is there, but only as a reflection of colours, and decreasing as the days go by. I have mixed feelings about the dark period. It is quite cold and the darkness can be a bit depressing. On the other hand, the light and the scenery of this particular period is a very special and wonderful experience.
The last sunshine is a digital work. It has a photo of a mountain outside Tromsø as a base. I have worked with the image, using graphic effects and digital colours.
"Don't you cry"
“Don’t you cry” is a digital artwork. It has a photo of the Tromsøpalm as base. I have used digital colour and graphic effects in the creation. It can be printed as Giclée or on another interesting material. I have made nice variations.
The ‘Tromsø palm’ is a strong, very robust plant, a familiar sight lots of places around the coast in the northern part of Norway. It can be up to 2 or 3 meters in height. It was introduced in Tromsø (from England, the origin is probably Caucasus) around 1850 as an interesting garden plant. From there it started to spread rapidly. It now has a very bad reputation and is considered a ‘problem’ in the vegetation. Research environments in Norway are of the opinion that the plant should be extinct. But the palm is very strong and it is not certainty about the best method. The plant is in its own peculiar way quite beautiful and has grown into a strange landmark in the northern part of Norway.

Beginnings
"Beginnings" is a digital artwork. It has a photo as a base. You may see contorus or shadows of reindeers, of mountains, a natural place. I have worked with the photo using digital tools and graphic effects to create a vision of an emotional place called "Beginnings".
Giclée is a printmaking method for digital art. It sets high standards or conditions for the printmaking process and the result. Advanced printers are used (with for instance ten different colours), and a combination of lightfast ink and acid free artpaper (190-300 gram). "Beginnings"can be printed as Giclée on artpaper, satisfying the conditions for this method. The artwork becomes signed and numbered like other printmaking artworks. The artwork can also be printed onto other interesting materials like metal(aliminium), canvas, wood or the like. It can have either a digital signature or ink/paint signature. There will be a limited edition on 50 images. The artwork can be combined with other variations for a triptyc, series, etc.
