Skansen, Tromsø, photopolymer

Title: Skansen, Tromsø
Technique: Printmaking; Photopolymer
Format: 14x18 cm
Production year: 2011
Comment: I took this photo wandering around the old parts of Tromsø, in the north of Norway, my hometown. The area is called Skansen, it is not that much activity there any more, and the plants have started to take over, covering up old houses that are not taken care of. I printed the photo on artpaper, using a printmaking technique called photopolymer.

It stays within

Title: It stays within
Production year: 2015
Comment: This artwork is made with acrylic painting on an old painting board I found at a second-hand sale. I have also used charcoal. The people in the painting seem to be waiting for something, perhaps they are experiencing the aftermath of emotional distress, numbness, or a transition phase, where the waiting is an important part, gathering themselves together again after a loss of something or someone important to them. We all loose something or someone on our way.
Sometimes it is difficult to let go or forget.

Stranger things have happened

Title: Stranger things have happened
Format: 124x82 cm
Technique: Acrylic painting on paper
Production year: 2015
Comment: This artwork is made with acrylic painting on paper. The paper has three small bits of collage elements in paper, two of them with text. The artwork portrays a young man, in a relational pose. He has thrown off his shirt revealing his torso and a musculous overarm, physical assets of importance for a man. He reflects physical strength and a very typical nordic reservedness in his personal attitude. An alternative title was "New haircut". The measures are approximate.

Incognito

Title: Incognito
Technique: Acrylic paint, linen textiles, sculpture
Format: Size: 49.5 H x 39.7 W x 1.5 cm
Production year: 2011
Comment: This artwork is made on a board. I have used materials to build up and model a face, that is covered with rough linen textile and painted white with acrylic paint. The depth of the face is perhaps two centimeter to the nose. I have made a thin frame on the backside. The sides are painted white. It can be hung onto the wall like this. Incognito inhabits the space of something that is hidden or unknown.

Wonder

Title: Wonder
Technique: Acrylic painting on board
Format: 54.7x 45.5 cm
Production year: 2015
Comment: The artwork is made with acrylic painting on board, there are five textured paper bits within the pink. I have made a wooden frame on the backside, and the sides are painted in white. It is possible to hang it on the wall like it is. The painting is composed with three contrasting fields of color, in pink, blue and red. The red field is shaped in a more organic form compared to the two static colourfields, that constitutes the background and the 'foreground' of the painting. The organic element within the strict composition can be an expression of something happening, out of nothing, something evolving or perhaps an eruption of force or energy. It may also reflect thoughts about matters that are not straightforward and explainable. The textured paper elements give more energy or vibration to the relatively flat pink area and can through its composition be understood as building blocks, like the ones we use to create our societies.
